woot! I upgraded the sound on my focus and i love it.

I replaced This with this

I know a stock focus cd player for a stock focus mp3/cd player..

but the second unit is a blapunkt (from a 2004).. hence technically to me an aftermarket upgrade. I had my friend chris in the car tonite and we both agree, the sound quality has improved tremendously.

I had previously installed the focus mp3 connectors in my car (my earlier focus mp3 unit was DOA but the wiring was done by a ford authorized audio installer, and they confirmed that the unit was DOA), so it was a matter of just swapping units and connecting the new one up. I drove down from sac -> la with the new mp3. I had 160+ tracks on a cd and i didnt have to change cd's..

woot!

I love the RDS feature (though i wish it would show song names like it should). Any idea if Traffic Alert system is used in the US. I turned it on just in case.

Well there goes the last of my $200 i earned this summer.. now im broke again.. boohoo..
oh well that's life. Atleast now i can travel long distance in style.

Yeah, RDS is pretty neat, although over here it just displays station names, that's it.
Traffic is a pretty damned useful feature for me, being on the road all day- it'll interrupt a CD or radio broadcast with traffic news from various stations, and it means that I can tell my iPaq/GPS unit to avoid certain areas if need be.

Enjoy it 🙂

You spent $200 on a stock HU that plays MP3s? Seriously, you could have spent that on an aftermarket deck that puts out more power and can do a lot more. Granted, very few if any aftermarket decks do RDS (I've only seen the option in OEM decks like in my boss' Suburban), but the tradeoff b/t a stock deck putting out probably 10w rms, no RCA preouts, and a limited MP3 capability vs an aftermarket deck that does all the above boggles my mind.

i wanted to keep the stock look of the focus.. the focus interior is very sexy IMHO.. i have an aftermarket one in my car, its just rebadged for ford by blapunkt. I have an AIWA CDC-MP3 sitting in a box. But this seems a lot more powerful.

Anycase i paid 175, which is a pretty decent deal.
