i asked a while back via my sig if i should go for cedar mill or an opteron/x2. obviously, out of all the pms, every single one of them was for the opty/x2.

here is what i have so far:

amd opteron 165
asus a8n32-sli deluxe
2GB (2x1GB) of some brand PC4000 ram - dont know which is the best for OCing...
2x7800GTs in SLI
western digital raptor 74GB
nec 3550a dvd-burner

will reuse my psu, 160GB ide hard drive, cd burner, and case. will also use the onboard audio as well.

reasons for picking above stuff:

cpu: everyone loves this processor, and having the 2x1MB cache instead of the 2x512 for the x2 3800+. apparently its server tested so it OCs better and less voltage is used...

mobo: like asus and i want to have the top of the line, plus sli x16 support.

memory: 2GBs of something, but pc4000. i liked having the extra bandwith and plus, from what ive seen (on zzf and screwegg) prices arent that much higher from pc3200. i did take a look at ATs reviews of the best 2GB pairs, but i dont know how AMD overclocks (im used to intel) and what the multiplier does and stuff like that.

video: 7800gt for sure, but with g71 coming out soon (i think)...should i wait for that to come out, or just buy the cards (evga brand) and maybe use their step-up program to get the new cards? i dont know. just a possibility.

hard drive: i would definitely like to have the most lag-free and least loading times as possible. i was always the last person to load in several of my games during lan parties and in general too (maybe my 512MB currently was holding me back).

dvd burner: brother has it and its pretty darn good.

im going from a intel pentium 4 2.4C @ 2.9 to this. will i see at least a little bit of a difference?

congrats if you actually read through all of that, and please comment what you think of it! thanks for your time!
