Woot! Got an apartment!

I'm moving out of my current place (school housing) in May, so me and my new roommate were looking for places. We've been looking since early February and just found a place yesterday.

You would not believe how incredibly difficult it is to find places in Philly that are reasonably close to Center City, have reasonable rent, and aren't in shitty areas. The apartment we got is a 2 bed, 1 bath, has all new appliances and granite counter tops, a remodeled bathroom, and a gas fireplace in the living room. Total rent is $1400/month, so $700 a person. We were looking to spend a little less than that, but all utilities (with the exception of TV/internet) are included so it's not bad, especially considering the location.

We gave the landlord our security deposit and applications today, and now we're just waiting on the credit check to come back. If all goes well (and it should, me and my roommate have near-perfect credit scores and our parents are co-signing) we'll be able to move in by May 15th.

This is my first ever place that's not school-sponsored or home, so I'm very, very excited.

My apartment is in south Philly, a couple blocks east of Broad St. and one block north of Washington Ave. I'm pretty close to a subway and some bus stops though, so I could get wherever if we did a Philly meet. I'd definitely be up for one though.

You probably live outside of a major city I'm guessing. That's why. Apartments near downtown in major cities are very, very expensive.

Yeah for real.

I have a friend who lives in an expensive area, and he is looking to buy.

He sent me a list that the realtor sent him and it was listed by price. So I clicked the one that said $159k (cheapest on the list) and it was for a 410sqft apartment. Could not believe it.

He currently pays like $1300/mo for 500 sqft but it includes some utilities, etc.

She's clean, she likes to cook, she's good for rent money, and we get along fine. Seems like everything will work out just fine.
