I've always had *really* bad experiences with putting PC's together, even though i love it. Either i'd put everything together and turn it on, and have odd beeps be thrown at me, or a black screen, or smoke come out the back of the case... You name it and i've done it.
Anyway, i just put together a new Athlon XP 1600+ comp, and on my first try, the computer booted and worked fine!
I only have one concern. The air comming out of the back of the case is pretty warm compared to my old PC (Athlon 800). Now i know that its a much higher Mhz rating, but i thought the XP's were supposed to run a bit cooler - just a bit. Could it be this new IBM 60gb 7200rpm HD thats making all this heat? Thats pretty much the only new component that i could think of to add this much heat (i doubt an audigy would do it).
I know that my CPU temp was about 39-40C when checked in the BIOS. Can't check what it is under load. And the case temp was around 28C. Is this good? Any ideas?
Otherwise, my new system seems to be running great. I just installed winXP and its awesome - nice and snappy (with 512 ram
