240 HP out of a 2.2 inline 4?
that's almost S2000 like. is it N/A or F/I?

Guess you didn't read the article:

Power for the sports car will likely come from a supercharged 240-hp version of GM?s 2.2-liter Ecotec inline four-cylinder engine.

Which also means that this thing will have some torqe and low-end power unlike the gutless Honda😀

True 🙂 🙂 The question is, if the prices were the same would people really flock to pick the GM over the S2000 (or even the 350)?

I would. I can't stand the S2000 and the 350Z is aight, but this thing is about $10,000 cheaper.
Agreed. Even the Miata is more expensive ($26K for the SE) and if we ever see a Mazdaspeed version it will probably push $30K.
Plus, the Solstice looks decidedly more "masculine" than the Miata (IMO) so they could be reaching a whole new audience.
The question is whether or not they can really bring this thing to market at the $20K price point. I'd love to see it.

Granted, the F-body was cheap performance and it failed but this is a different type of car.

why is pontiac the one company that simply can't make a good looking car? even the new Saturns look good.

The F-body tried too hard to compete with the Mustang, & got it's ass whipped (in sales). The LS1 based F-bodies were in an entirely different performance class than the Mustang GT, it should never have been asked to compete with the Mustang. IMHO they shouldn't have tried to compete with the Mustang, rather setting it in a class of it's own - 90% of the Corvette at 1/2 the cost.

As for the Solstice, if they can put it out at $20K it should compete VERY well. It should outperform a Neon SRT-4, AND look a lot better doing it.

Viper GTS

From the early rumors the 20K Solstice might be a hardtop without the supercharger. A supercharged open top would add I GUESS 5K or so. But still a car for around $28K (don't forget GM over prices all its cars so it can later have a BIG sale, so 28K = 25K for GM)
Look at the Mini-Cooper. Has the S and Non-S version.

But the car is still not final and it could change. Just have to wait and see. But it seems lutz will not let it die.

Hard to imagine a car so awesome looking wears a pontiac badge. Where has the Solstice design team been hiding for the last 20 years?

The designer, Franz von Holzhausen, had just been hired when he came up with the original sketch. More recently, he designed the Chevrolet SS Concept.

nice...the timeframe they had to get the original concept together was amazing, I hope the production model doesn't stray too far from the concept...wish we could see more of the ass, it looks like it has a lot of potential.

There was an article in Popular Science like six months ago about this, and oh yeah that is one sweet as hell car.

Also with the ease in modding a supercharger, expect a whole lot more power out of that little engine.
