Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Muslim Arabs. Read more: "Don't let these people borrow your car. . . - kevintren's posterous" - http://kevintren.posterous.com...ur-car#ixzz0FsVsbgSI&A

Are they implying that the reason it was blocked from being shown on the news is because of that, even though it happened in France?

If so, then WTF is the world coming to?

Ah, so was BS.

Yeah, the pics are real, but the entire story at that website is fake.

Maybe, but that story is much more fun to believe than the truth. After all, blaming a bunch if stupid "camel jockeys" for crashing a plane provides far more LULZ than a story about a French engineer's miscalculations. Now if the French guy would have surrendered...or ran away with his hands in the air...:p

lol subtle attempt at Arab bashing?

The story was entertaining nonetheless :D I wonder how bit the A340-600 is relative to other planes. The OG articles made it seem like it was HUGE....but apparantly it isn't according to the snopes article

It's the longest airliner ever until the extended Boeing 747-800 comes out. It is pretty big, it carries about as many people as a 747 when configured for 3 class seating (380 v.s. ~415 for 747s). As a comparison, the 4 engines on a 340-600 are just about identical in thrust to the 4 on a 747-400 (the 747 being ~5-8% more powerful).

These are big planes and the fact it was totaled with 0 hours of airtime, no matter the reason, is a big deal. I'm sure ADAT, Airbus nor Etihad are happy about what happened considering how long it takes to build one of these things.

Shorter length, taller height and wider then a 747.

The 340-600 is the special extended body and higher fuel capacity version for high passenger count long haul international flights.

Do Arabs have a knack for crashing planes into structures?

Ps. Dear OP, you suck at making thread titles... and subtitle too.
