ClockGen is great! I was able to overclock am Athlon X2 3600+ to 2.3 Ghz using that software and a super cheap motherboard from NewEgg - this one:

It took a bit of trial and error to find out the correct settings for GlackGen, but it makes overclocking so easy. I did have to lower the memory divider in the BIOS to get this overclock.

I use ClockGen on the system in my sig., and will often manually lower the speed if I won't be gaming for a while, and then raise it back up when I need the speed.

There is an option to ignore the PCI and PCIe channels, and on the website it says that they won't be overclocked at all. Also, there's a seperate slider besides the one for FSB, as near as I can figure that's for the side busses

i just got a Dell E521 and cannot OC the 4200+ X2 much at all. I go from 2.2ghz to 2.3ghz and it craps out on games...

I have went through five e521s with a 3600+ x2 that have all did at least 2.3Ghz 24 hour orthos stable. I believe if i could adjust the HT multiplier in windows I could go even further - I'm stuck at 5x so at 2.3Ghz the HTT speed is 1200+ MHz.

there's a program out there that you can adjust the HT ratio and RAM ratio for the Dell E521.

I was able to OC my X2 from 2200mhz to 2500mhz.

Turns out it was my RAM holding me back.

it's a c521, not an e521. Also, mine is a 3600+ with a brisbane at 1.9. I got it up to 2251 with no voltage changes. I'm a little scared to mess with voltage since I don't want to piss off the network admin. He lets me use some of the computers for DC but if I start messing with voltages etc and get caught then he'll probably cut me off.

by the way, according to speedstep, this thing idles at 9c! I wonder if speedstep is 15c off on this unit like it was in another post that I read the other day. It shows the HD at 38c and the cpu at 10c. The room is about 22 c. wow, maybe dell is using TEC coolers now...

edit: funny, running boinc on both cores shoots it up to 41c. That seems more reasonable since my fx 55 under load runs at 46c in a room that is 2-3c warmer.

From what I've heard the best ram to OC the DELL E/C 521's is the DDR2 533 that can run at least 600mhz at 1.8v. For some reason these things hate faster ram when it comes to overclocking cause of the limited dram voltage

My friend got a E521 w/ 3600, 512mb ram, 20" 2007WFP ultrasharp monitor, 250gb HD for $700 or so shipped. He then bought an XFX 8600GT for $100 - $120 and 2 GB of DDR2 for $85. Overclocked the cpu to 2.3 ghz and he has a pretty fast system. He was gonna build a E4400 system but after he calculated everything including case/power supply/heatsink & fan/monitor/shipping/etc it ended up cheaper to get the dell, of course it wont be as fast but still plenty fast enough. I was thinking about getting a E520 w/ Core 2 Duo... anyone know average overclocking results for E520 w/ C2D?

Hello all,

I managed to land a deal on a E521 with the AMD x2 4000 and a 20" samsung LCD for $439...but it only comes with 512MB of 667mhz ram.

I'm thinking of upgrading to 2GB, but does anybody know how much of a performance difference it would make to shell out for 2GB of PC6400 800mhz vs the 667mhz ram? From what I've been able to research, the ram speed makes much more of a difference for AMD performance than it does for Intel, just not sure how much.

I've not had any experience with this, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if that's the case. Whatever you get, make sure it runs at 1.8v and you should be fine

Was able to bump my A64 3500+ from stock (2.2Ghz) to 2.52Ghz by just increasing the voltage from 1.4 to 1.45. (This being done on my HP machine)

Ran solid in 3dmark06 CPU test, although I'd probably never run it like this all the time as my core gets up to nearly 50 degrees C. Nifty little set of programs though.

Thanks so much for the advice. I was able to find a deal for two 1GB sticks and two 512MB sticks of pc6400 for about $100 AR...don't recognize the brand (Centon) but their website said that their ram is compatible with the Dell E521.

I used your info and have my e521 3600+ overclocked to a comfortable 2.2ghz from the 1.9ghz default. I went a bit more but it crashed. The 2.2 has been extremely stable for 2 weeks of heavy use.

how did you adjust the memory ratio? I'm at 2400 running 10 windows + at work and 2x seti @home when not using it for work on my 4000+ brisbane C521. Also, I could never get any programs to work that would adjust the htt ratio.
