Unemployment finally kicked in! 7 1/2 weeks, but they paid me for all the back time that I have been waiting. Hopefully it hits my checking account today so I can pay some bills!

Thank you God!

Hope you're in a state that has halfway decent benefits. AL maxes out @ 255.00 per week. Yep $255.00 per week.

It was $362/week but I just got a letter saying that it went up $25. Anything is better than the nothing I have been living off of. I am sooooo grateful!

Yeah for those who earn it, its a nice thing to get. When I lost my job a year and a half ago, I spent 2 months looking for a new one. while i had the savings to live off of, the money really helped and made the stress go down a lot.

True, Anything is better than nothing and we are pretty stable anyway so the amount really doesn't matter I was just shocked when I saw that. Glad it came through for you and keep your head up man.

Damn. I don't think that I could live on 362/wk. I would if I'd have to but you can bet that I'd try my best to try and procure another well paying job even if I'd have to move. 362/wk wouldn't even cover my rent.
Acquire some skills damn it.

I'm working on it! I am in the process of going back to school. That reminds me....I need to call the place and see what's going on.

Just to pour ice water on the party:

1) Going back to school should kill the benefits - you are not longer employable

2) Those benefits will be taxed by Uncle Sam at the end of the year.

1) May be true. Every state is a bit different in this area...and if it's approved in advance, he's good to go...if not, unemployment stops.

2) Yup. Unemployment is indeed taxable as regular income. In most states, you have the option of having a portion withheld for income tax.

The school thing is through the state though. They do this kind of thing for a living, so I am leaving the details up to them.

I live in Michigan.

I continue to look for a job, but there are more places cutting jobs than hiring. It really is that bad here. I figure my only real chance is going back to school.
