wool socks keep your feet dry?

I heard that wool socks somehow keep your feet dry...
how? doesn't wool insulate remarkably well -- thus you will sweat even more from the increased heat?

Wool fabric breathes which allows the sweat to evaporate, while still insulating to keep them warm.

Whenever I'm working on the farms, especially when it's cool/cold out, I always wear Carhartt wool socks. They're the only ones I've found that will keep my feet warm *and* dry.

wool doesn't retain nearly as much water as cotton and it dries way faster.

I wear wool with liners 8 months out of the year.

Wool socks retain heat wet or not, and dry faster than any other fabric. But if you wear them in the shower all is null and void. 😀

FTW I backpacked through Europe on two pairs of Smartwool socks and limited laundry facilities. I wear them all the time for athletic stuff (bike riding, running, etc).
