Where I teach, I'm NHS advisor. We had a county wide banquet where they hand out scholarships to NHS students. There are 14 or 15 schools in the county. Students from my calculus class won nearly 30% of the scholarships for the entire county! I'm proud of them! Thursday is another county-wide banquet... preliminary reports are that we've won a disproportionate amount again :)

NHS = one of those elitist clubs where only the kids that are chosen as the "top students" or whatever get in...... I usually spend my lunch times at school just trying to distract their meetings, not because I couldn't get in, but just because most people that are in it take it so seriously its fun to piss em off ;P

I was in the NHS, and I didn't give a rats ass. Still don't. I got to wear a sash. Oooo. I felt so special. You know what it did for me? Nothin'. Went to ISU, took 24 hrs first semester, 26 second semester, and 21 3rd. Then decided college sucked.

DrPizza, Concrats to you and your students. I really mean that too. That shows a lot for your school. Keep it up :)

Congrats DrPizza
Good teachers like you are few and far between - luckily for me one of my favorite teachers was a math teacher as well - and since I'm a math major that works out well.

In our school, practically the entire student body is/has been in NHS. Most of us end up not caring anymore...forced volunteer work is bad volunteer work.

I find our NHS really disorganized and stuff. Tutoring cancelled here, science fair judging relocated there, etc. There's no real point IMHO.

I was in NHS - but I never went ot any of the meetings because they were boring as hell - I dropped the club, then became president of something a little more fun: Spanish Club :p

Nothing like planning trips to cities with amusement parks (and the occasional educational museum) :p
