It was a traditional indian engagement and we had around 200 people over for the dinner and bhangra party :).

Unlike regular engagements there were no surprises. We planned things together and sent out invitations. Put the ring on in front of 200 people :).

You should have just gotten hitched while everybody was there. You could have saved thousands!!

How traditional? As in, arranged? My friend's parents were arranged. I guess they didn't even get engaged. They hadn't even seen each other before the ceremony. It's funny when you ask them about it too:

"What did you think when you saw your wife standing at the altar?"
"Oh she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen in my life!"

"And what did you think about your husband?"
"Meh..."

No not arranged. We have being going out for more than a year. Party was planned and paid for by us. Both families were there and some friends.

We spent so much time and money planning it and now we have to do more work to send out thank you notes. After we made 100 or so invitation cards I swore I will never do them again but 6 weeks later here I am thinking about thank you notes.

Congrats and good luck!
200 people at the engagement is not a bad thing.. but if they wanna go on your honeymoon, I would ay that it is time to draw a line.

Damn, there may be some merit in it!

Now if you could only pull that off at a large event...

see if you can get her favorite cousin or friend or (any other relative) to attend the party. We had her cousin who lives in England come down for the party. It was a big surprise for her.
