Ok, so I prefer FedEx, but shipping from B&H is significantly less using UPS vs. FedEx, and since I haven't had any bad experiences (yet)...

Anyway, the obligatory pics:
small version (28KB)
large version (223KB)

The new things that came that are visible in that picture are a reversing ring (connects the front side of the lens to the camera, instead of the back) and focusing rail (thing between the camera and tripod that allows it to be slid back and forth). Other macro geeks may appreciate why the latter is necessary, especially considering that I can't do TTL flash with this setup. ;)

FWIW, I get slightly over 4 times lifesize magnification with the config shown in the picture: a 28mm lens reversed on 50mm of extension. This is almost as much as Lirion's MP-E 65mm, except with his he doesn't have to manually stop down the aperture - a nice advantage to have when you pay $800 for something as opposed to $40 (total cost of all my macro gear, bought used). :D

Neat.

I tried to do the stacked lens thing, but my optics aren't good and fast enough to do it without excessive vignetting. :(

Edit: and 50 reversed on 200 would give you 4x, not 8x, if my math is correct

yea you are right you need a 2x teleconverter as well i forgot that

there is a guy that does it with canon equip, the 70-200L a canon 2x tele converter and a reversed 50mm

8x macro, he takes pictures of SNOWFLAKES that fill the frame

Wouldn't happen to be Lirion, would it? ;)

I think John Shaw did a snowflake macro at slightly more than 4x, but he had several snowflakes, so they weren't really full frame.

Maybe I'll be able to have some success if I can find a significantly larger snowflake this winter...
