This year was the first year in over 3 decades that my company has lost money...but the industry is tight and this year was tough. Instead of giving company wide pay increases (usually 1-2%), they implemented a profit sharing program that may result in a bonus at the end of the next year if we see profitability again. Obviously this was not a popular move among the employees since it was a bonus(not likely to get it, no 401K matching, does not get included in any future pay increases, etc.) and they wouldn't be seeing it before the end of the year.
Well, my CIO came into my office today and shut the door. For a second I thought I had screwed something up and was going to get a ass chewing, but instead he told me that CFO had asked him if there were any individuals who deserved a raise based on performance and apparantly he picked me...so I got a 4% raise (typical yearly increase is 2%...but it was 0% this year). Nothing special...but it definitely makes me happy and more likely to stay on board for at least another year (I was contemplating jumping ship).
Anyway, they've made me happy. If only I can reduce the hours I work to get that recognition.
