PlexWriter 48/24/48A

This should be good. HSRW (24x CDRW) support will allow me to use the thing like a slow hard drive.

Access Time <65 ms
:Q About time Plextor decided to work on their speeds.

Now I can go retire my trusty 12/10/32A....

I was all set looking at the Yamaha CRW-F1 until this came along.

AndyHui yep that sure is a fast cd-rw. I think i may wait for the next cd-rw that can make cds in secs to 1 sec hehe. CD-Rs and CD-RWs if possible.

Wow now if they make reliable-affordable media to support that awesome speed that will be really cool.

Why would anyone want this drive when you can have a 48X12X48 lite-on that will probably cost half the price of the Plextor. Plextors are way overrated if you ask me, yeah they WERE the best back in the sub 16X CDRW days.

Because Plextor are not that more expersive than Liteon. Maybe at first but not after a while. Plus it will have > 65 ms access time which is better than the liteon cd-rws.

We will have to see if it really reaches 65ms mark., also will it support all the features of Clone CD?, can it do 48X DAE?, does it use gears instead of belts to open and close the drive?

Also the Plextors are 2x as much as Lite-on drives. According to newegg the Retail Plextor 40/12/40 is $129, the Lite-on 40/12/40 retail version is $66

Have to agree that Plextor is grossly overpriced. I was disappointed with the 40x Plextor immensely. Nowhere near as smooth as my old 12/10/32A or my old trusty 12/10/32S. Very picky on media and rather dismal seek/access times.

Lite-On rules the roost right now. I think I'll take the 48/24/48 Lite-On (which will likely become a 52x32x52 with a simple firmware upgrade) instead. YMMV. :)
