I just got one yesterday. My IBM T20 (700MHz P3, 256MB RAM) LCD screen went out. They didn't have any in stock to replace mine, so I was upgraded to a T30. 1.8GHz P4, 512MB RAM. I wasn't on the roadmap for an upgrade for quite a long time. Just my luck that my screen went out.

The average PC where I work is probably about a 500Mhz P3. And we've still got some 133Mhz machines in use too.
But since I'm a developer, I get the good stuff. I just got my 1Ghz P3 Thinkpad replaced about 2 months ago for a Thinkpad T30 with a 2.0Ghz P4, 512MB, Radeon 7500, DVD/CD-RW, 20GB HDD.

It can actually run some games at a decent fps. Much better than the 8MB ATI Rage on my last one.

Try my P2 333. I have an HP sitting around tho w/o chip or ram. I'm thinking my Celly 566 @850 and a couple sticks of 128 (HP is a 443ZX w/ 2 dimm slots).

I wouldn't call anything with a Radeon 7500 a gaming rig.

But I like the fact that mine can handle games so I won't go through withdrawals too much when I'm on vacation or on business travel. Although when I took it to New Orleans last month, I didn't play any games. My hotel was a block from Bourbon st., so there were a few other distractions. Who ever said nerds don't know how to party was definitely wrong.

it's not top of the line but it's definitely not necessary for computer work
