Until 30 minutes ago, I was a proud owner of a 6800gt. I decided to buy a x800pro at compusa and modded to x800xt using the sticky instructions at ocforums.

I followed the directions exactly and now I'm running at 526 Mhz core and 573 Mhz memory.

I tried 3dmark2003 without any artifacts. I have to try the atitool artifact test to see if there is any.
Haven't played doom 3 yet but will try timdemo later.

My x800xt got 12630 on 3dmark2003. My PNY 6800gt OC'ed to 423/1180 did 12605 on 3dmark2003.

I'm a very happy camper. Now I just have to egay the 6800gt, which by the way, is a great card.

Thanks compusa, thanks ocforums!!!!

Just to add: my doom 3 time demo score is 57.2 fps! That's pretty disappointing since my 6800gt could do 80.1 fps. But that was expected. I don't play doom 3 much anyway. I got boring really quick.

Might want to try sell the 6800 GT at the AT FS/FT forum first. :p

What brand is it?

Edit - Grats on the softmod :)

my ATI is BBA. My 6800gt was PNY. PNY card are great overclockers, though.

By the way, I do notice a little better image quality on my x800xt now. the 6800gt IQ was good with the 66.00 drivers but not as good as ATI's.

Wow, my 3dmark2001 jumped to a 26, 400. The old 6800gt gave me 24,123. Weird.

Was it a VIVO model, or non VIVO?
That'd be the difference between a "hard" mod and a softmod. I'm very curious.
Could you give me a briefing of the steps you took to do it?
I'd appreciate it. Thanks :)

Hi, here's all the info on the BBA x800 pro I bought at the Mission Viejo store here in California:

Side sticker info:

-Radeon x800 Pro 256MB V/VO/D
-100-435200
-UPC: 727419411523

Serial number found on top of box:
S/N: 630430004158 - 01

The RAM version I have was Samsung GC16 1.6ns. It was 1.6ns on both sides of the boards, as opposed to mixed RAM on the other non-BBA brands.

Note that of the 4 they have, all of them were 630430XXXX
So that means that the 630430 batch works very well. I see the yellow connection below the purple power connector as well. The box also comes with your standard VIVO cables.

Here's the link to the website with all the instructions. Please follow the instructions exactly.

Well..the flash works nearly 100%. You can open up the other 4 pipelines that way. The only problem is that not all of the cards will overclock to XT PE speeds. I bought the same SKU last week hoping to do the mod, but decided on getting a GT instead.

I just picked up a BBA X800 Pro at Fry's in the Bay Area. Specs:

Radeon X800 Pro 256MB V/VO/D
UPC: 727419411523
S/N: 6304227005861-01
Samsung GC16 1.6ns

Mine does not have the yellow connector under the power connector. It has the round connector between the VGA and DVI and the appropiate video cables. Is this a VIVO model? It looks like the softmod should work if I am reading this correctly.

Wow, you traded 25 3DMark points for 23 FPS in all games based on the D3 engine.

It's supposed to have the yellow video in connector on the right side of the card, and a rage theater chip on the back. That's the VIVO which can "softmod" via a bios flash.

I'll have to take another look at it when I get home from work. But you did say yours was built by ATi correct? I had heard that ATi did not make a VIVO model.

Thx

Edit, duh. I forgot the card was in my backpack. No Rage chip :( But it does have the 1.6ns RAM :) Guess I should wait for a soft mod.

well according to my guide, if you have any VIVO version card( ATI, Sapphire etc) + 1.6ns ram you should be fine.

Wow, maybe he doesn't care to much for Doom 3 or Doom3 engine based games?

I played HL most of the way, but lost my save, and couldn't be arsed to restart.
Quake 3 was of no interest, UT got me hooked.
Wolfenstein: ET was vague interest, but not really. I had Red Orchestra (mod for UT2004), which is much better.
Jedi Knight 2, IMO, sucked.
CoD was a 6 hour game, never bothered with multi (see Red Orchestra).
Doom 3 - no interest. Timedemo was the most fun I had with it, couldn't be arsed to play (partly RO again, partly I never cared for it or the hype, HL2 is my game).

So, yeah, I don't like iD much, nor do I have interest in iD engined games.
You got a problem with that?

Congrats to the OP for a successful mod. Lucky git to have the $$$ to afford it!

Given the fact that any GOOD D3 engine based game is two years off, if you don't like D3 (personally can't stand it) the X800 XT PE is still the premiere card this generation. D3 engine games are a worry for a gamer's *next* VPU upgrade.

I have read through the posts online concerning the BIOS flash mod but have a question I cannot find the answer for. Keeping in mind the extra 4 pipes must not be damaged for either mod to work properly. If I jump the bridges with conductive pen and do NOT reflash the BIOS the card SHOULD still perform like a XT, right?? At least thats the impression I get from this article over at digit-life :

Digit life article

I would rather do the bridge jump as there is much less of a chance of permenantly borking my new GPU like a bad flash would do. Input/opinions??

Thx
