The motherboard on my "server" computer died about a year ago and since then when I come back home from college I needed to use my old K6 233. I call it a server because I have some FTP software running on it, but really it's just the computer I use when my main rig is not available.
I just got a new motherboard, a vintage Asus A7V. No stinkin' 133, 266 or 333! Just A7V. Plugged in the old Athlon 1Gig, a few sticks of ram, and up she booted. Ahh, 'tis a beautiful thing. A wee bit faster than my 233. The only downside is the video card I had been using is now dead so I'm stuck with an old PCI something-or-other.
The best part is, I'm running the CPU with only a heatsink, no fan, and she's running at 43 C right now. The secret? A shroud running from the only fan in the system, a 92mm Panaflo over the heatsink. This chip will run 1.4GHz no problem too. This is a sweet computer. I used this machine for a long time and she still serves me well.
