Woohoo! Just hit 1.4Ghz (And a small review of the A7V133)

Finally hit 1.4Ghz with a 1.1 T-bird (bought from Compuwiz1) with a TaiSol CGK742092 heatsink, Artic Silver, Crucial cas2, runnin on an Asus A7V133. Using 4.28a 4in1 drivers. Multiplier set at 10, FSB 140.

Benchmarks:

Memory
1st run
ALU- 581
FPU- 618
2nd run
ALU- 624
FPU- 612
Without WPCREDIT
ALU- 480
FPU- 503
Without WPCREDIT and with bios set to Optimal
ALU- 632
FPU- 618

CPU
Dhrystone ALU- 3894
Whetstone FPU- 1928

Just a quick note on the Asus A7V133-
The memory scores I got were from enabling WPCREDIT. The current Bios disables 4-way interleaving when you go above 137FSB. I've tried every workaround on this and can't get it to stick. Hopefully this will be fixed with a BIOS update.

If you see reviews that show a low memory score, this is probably why.

Boot up times are incredibly fast. The bios screen flashes by for less than a second. The Promise bios goes by in about 2 seconds. WindowsME loads in about 7 seconds.

There are numerous tweaks in the bios that I will need to do some research on because there was nothing like it on my CUSL2. The only complaint I have about the board is that it comes with onboard audio. (Which is enabled by default.)

Being my first AMD board, I don't know if this is normal, but the board is very wide. I have it in a FongKai 603 case and the board actually reaches the drive bays. Which only leaves me with space for 1 5 1/4in drive at the top. (And that is only because that drive bay is above the board.) I had to take out my cdrom and just leave my burner in. Time for a real case I guess.

All in all the board is very stable. No lockups yet. I've been running 3DMark2k looped, and Q3 looped with no problems yet. I will try lowering the Multiplier and raising the FSB later to see if I can improve on memory scores. I have a feeling that my memory will stop this from happening.

Update- using advice from Dulanic and saving my settings by hitting F10 worked. No longer have to use WPCREDIT, and memory scores went up.

Dug you can override the Normal setting... Before leaving the BIOS switch to Optimal System Performance then press F10 and save without leaving that screen.... it will then be saved as optimal, and you wont have to use WPCREDIT to turn on Interleave.

Dulanic-

I tried that, but when I run Sandra my memory scores go way down. Meaning that the setting didn't take effect. When I go back to the bios, sure enough it reverts back to Normal. I think this is why the scores were low on GamePC's review.

I've also tried hitting esc and then saving changes. Still doesn't work.
I'm thinking about trying the 1002 bios I found over at ocworkbench. I don't know about this though because there isn't a 1002 bios on Asus's site.

Are you sure? If I switch to optimal then press F10 save exit, load windows then run WPCREDIT interleaving is on and so is AGP4X (What Optimal does). However if I go BACK into the BIOS it will revert back to Normal, so you have to set it again.

BTW you can't do it that way, you have to switch to Optimal... then press F10 so you dont leave the screen.

Dulanic-

I just tried the F10 trick again and it worked! I don't know what I did before. Maybe I didn't hit F10 on that screen.

New memory scores with performance set to Optimal!

ALU- 632
FPU- 618

I knew it would 🙂 I found out this override when they did this on the A7V 1005 BIOS...

I know that T-Birds are locked, but can you lower the Multiplier if it is locked? For example, can you run a 1.1GHz at a 10.0 multiplier withOUT unlocking?

No. Reports are coming in that the 1.2Ghz cpu's are coming in already unlocked. Anything else you have to unlock with the pencil trick.
