I usually ignore and disregard the pre-approved offers I receive from CitiBank and dozens of other banks but what really caught my eye was:

0% APR ON BALANCE TRANSFERS UNTIL NOVEMBER 2003

Wow. So I went online to CitiBank, entered the pre-approved code, entered my info, clicked submit and they said I'd hear something by snail mail within 3-4 weeks. Doesn't online usually mean instant decision?

So today I was checking the balance on my Alaska Airlines/BOFA cc and noticed it dropped $1,500 and knew that I got approved for the CitiBank MC since I requested a $1,500 balance transfer to my Alaska Airlines cc.

So I called CitiBank and they said my limit is a piddly $2,000

Are they crazy? I just bought a $17k car and I'm swimming up to my neck in debt!

Woohoo!

:D

Excellent visual analogy there, Astaroth33!

I was thinking more of a Nero fiddling/Rome burning kinda thing.... ;)

Ross: transfer balance from one of your other cards and take advantage of the 0% interest to whack some of your debt. I did the same and should be paying off the last of some long-standing debt at the end of this week. (w00t! Nothing left but the mortgage!!) :)

Fausto1 - That's what I did, I used $1,500 to pay down my Alaska Airlines cc and the other $500 to payoff a smaller cc and that account is now CLOSED.

All you have to do now is NOT carry your new card with you so you won't be tempted...lock it in a safety deposit box or something :)

I got the same type offer except with AT&T of all places. 0% APR on balance transfers until July 2003. I got only a $6,000 limit, but transferred one whole card (9.9% interest) and about half of another (also 9.9%). I cancelled the one that was paid off, cut up the new one I just got, and am paying on two cards still, but one is with no interest. Should have them both paid off by March of 2003 unless I decide to pay one of the cars off. Then I'll still have some debt around until August 2003.
The sucky thing about that new card, is if I don't pay it all off by July 2003, then they'll charge a transfer fee of 3% or $50 (I think that's the amount, not sure, probably more) on the balance originally transferred.

stockjock - Harhar funny, I'm using this new CitiBank MC solely for the 0% balance transfer APR afterwards I'll probably close it.

AmusedOne - I hope to have it paid off by November 2003, hope being the key word :Q

MrsSkoorb - As Skoorbie already knows, it's too late for that.

Rossman,

Make sure you don't use your new card for any purchases. Any purchase made with that card will have a 14.9%+ on it until you paid off the initial balance transfer. No matter what the deal is there is a catch to it. as the old saying " no free lunches".

Also, seems like your debt isnt anything near mines as I have 2 cars to pay off hehehe... I'm staying away from the Hot deal forum as much as possible nowadays :D. So i dont buy useless stuffs or toys. To make matters worse, I just quit my job and plans to take a vacation to LV in two weeks(see you there dood). Woooh hooooo.....

BAH!

I have the exact same card and they won't give me the 0% APR on balance transfers because "they don't offer that rate" in Canada. :|

I guess i'll have to stick with 5.9% until I pay it off.

Thanks RossMan

I was inspired by this thread. I went here and did a little poking around for a good deal. I wish I had been able to get that as long of a promotion as you.

But I'm pretty happy with my deal.

I got the Citi Diamond Preferred Card
0.0% till April 03
No transfer fee
9.74% after that

I applied online and received a response immediately I qualified for $3500.
I accepted the offer and was given a special offer. If I let them send me a check for $4750 (against my account) then they'd raise my limit to $5000.

I've only got about $7000 total to pay off anyway so this deal rocked for me. Not to mention it's cool to be getting a huge check :D

I'd like to be banned from Hot Deals too. I relaxed my vigilance just slightly for a month and spent $750 bucks :(:(:(....

Stupid hot deals forum....Stupid weak will.....
