woohoo! I totally owned Discrete Math 1

I took Discrete Math 1 this semester and was having a really tough time. Most of my homework and test grades were in the high 60s. I managed to bring my grade up somewhat with a take-home test and extra credit, but was still hovering in the lower C range. I needed a 63 on the final to get a B-, and a 88 or something ludicrous like that to get an A. Just got my final grades, and somehow I managed to pull off an A- in Discrete! Man, I guess studying really does pay off 😛

I took that class for my major -- it definitely wasn't easy with the induction/proofs segment.

Congrats. 🙂

One of the meanest teachers I ever had was in Discrete I ... I studied my arse off for the final. I got a 79, couldn't believe it.

I was walking out of the building when I decided to go back and check the other grades up for the class. Ends up it was out of 200 ... whoops!

They graded out of 200? What the heck?

Heh heh, reminds me of my roommate's away message after he came back from his Discrete final.

"I'm pretty sure I made a 100 on that Discrete Math test.

... too bad it was out of 200 [points]."

I have this due soon for Computer Science. Its the most useful maths I've EVER done (with exception to basic operators etc).

What kind of math is Discrete Math.

Mine was logic (predicates, sets, proofs etc), combinatorics (counting, permutations, combinations etc) and graph theory.

How is the difficulty compared with Modern Algebra.

It's a cakewalk compared to modern algebra. I just took 'Introduction to Algebra' before discrete math and its proofs were at least 10 times harder than anything encountered in discrete. Both were very interesting classes, but I think I liked the algebra a little better just because of the grand applications of it all.
