Why is the max ram limited to 512MB. Is that the max for the i815 chipset? Can they patch the bios to accept more?

Seems like a real waste to have 4 ram slots and only 512 max.

Too bad the board is an X-mas present...*sigh*
 
yeah, intel design 815 with 512mb max so it wouldn't steal away from their i820/840/850 rambus business... i maxxed out my cusl2s..
 
Congrats on your SH6!!😀 I got mine about a week ago....what a sweet board it is. You gotta tear into that thing....forget waiting for Xmas!!

Yeah, I wish I could...my wife's a stickler about it though. She did let me open it so I could make sure everything's there.
 
Yeah, it's a GeForce DDR. I'll upgrade when the NV20 comes out...that is if they have them out by my birthday in Feb.

Otherwise, it's an SB Live Value, 45GB ATA66 HD, 128MB of IBM RAM Pioneer 16X DVD and, Ricoh CDRW (1st add-on) 🙂

I just hate being limited to 3 pci slots and 2 memory slots. Oh yeah, the 145Watt PS is suck!
 
It does have 6 PCI and 4 RAM slots. This thing is rock solid and was a total breeze to setup. My video card is loving the 1/2 AGP divider too...

Okay that's what I thought.

What setup do you have? AND was it easy to disable the Sound and Video? I wanna use my Live! and my GeForce IIMX (Hercules)

The onboard sound and video can be disabled in the BIOS with one switch for each. As far as the motherboard setup...you only have to install the 815e drivers and the Intel ATA drivers and you're up and running. Very easy, very clean. Your setup should be smooth daddy!! I hope this helps!!

Should I DL the 815i drivers BEFORE the board switch? And the same with the ATA drivers? So I can point it to them during the install?

How do you feel about the pIII800e (100mhx) going to a GHZ? I have an Orb on it, and 3 80mm, with a 92mm chimmney. Plently of cooling.

I will have (when the board get's here) 256 PC133 Crucial ram ....
 
If you go here and check out their database, the 800e's actually don't get to 1GHZ as often as the 700e's. As far as the drivers, they come on a CD with the board. I recommend a format and fresh install of the OS if you can.

Heh, when I said 3 PCI, I meant the cheap motherboard that's in my current, pre-SH6 update. 🙂

You know, the manual says the hd auto detect may not be able to see a drive unless it's low level formated. Any experience?

And what do you mean 1/2 AGP divider? How is that different from normal 2x/4x AGP?
 
As far as the low level format, I had one HD that had data(mp3,files,etc.) and I had one brand new HD that I just formated regularly and I had no problems with either.

The 1/2 AGP divider means it is dividing the the front side bus by 2. So if you're running 133mhz the AGP slot will be running at 66mhz; its normal specs. My understanding is that the chipset divides the AGP slot based on the FSB setting. If you were running at 100 mhz, I believe it would adjust the slot to 2/3, once again giving you a 66mhz setting. I hope this helps.

Ok, sounds like that may solve my worries about having to mess with the AGP clock speed when I try to overclock my cpu.

Am I wrong?
