so i was thinking about getting a kvm for my room, being i am constantly having pc's come in and out being worked out. its such a pain in the arse to share my monitor, or have two monitors hog my desk space. so after a week or so of research, i decided i was going to get the linksys kvm (forgot the model number, but the one with the power supply). i even got a $71 buy.com gift certificate (@ $55) from some dude in FS/FT, so i can buy it. then i read somewhere on these forums that the d-link ones were better (at least according to their experience). so i check out the prices of the d-link kvms. turn out there is a local place which i found on pricewatch, so i went to pick it up. the price was right (especially no shipping), but i was a little disappointed that it would not come with it's own power supply. after buying the thing, i opened up the box and to my surprise, it did have a power supply :) went home, hooked it up... sweet! i was so happy, i even re-did all my cable management. kvm-sweetness... i like... :D

Where I used to work, I had 12 computers on 3 KVMs hooked up to one monitor. Well, that was the test cluster... we had 2 others that were permanent. KVMs rule!

Yeah, but you get raped (price-wise) on the cables.

For us financially challenged:p folks VNC will will do approx the same thing on your LAN. I still want to get a KVM for my main rigs but the software does approx the same for FREE:D plus I have too many rigz to buy enough KVMs to attach them all to.

IIRC:

Keyboard
Video
Mouse

You hook several PC's to the kvm then one keyboard, monitor and mouse to the kvm and there is a switch that let's you switch between pc's.

those things carry a pretty hefty price tag, but for how much they simplify things, they're probalby worth it, never owned one, but at many times i wish i did.
