woohoo! apple event on january 27th to show off "latest creation"!!!

My bet is on EVERYTHING!

Tablet, iPhone OS 4.0 Preview, New MBPs with Core i5/i7, the kitchen sink... 😉

Tablet, maybe new macbooks. Oh and 10.6.3 will be released. ilife 2010 and iwork 2010 maybe. Im that since the tablet is basically a big iphone, they will have something new for the iphone.

I'm also crossing my fingers for Aperture 3.

Yeah! And how about new versions of iLife & iWork optimized for touch based input? The iSlate could be like a portable portfolio, an easy way to carry and share all your video and photos.

Tablet rumors been out since before Christmas. For some reason Apple stock is zooming up today (it has been flat/sinking for the last two weeks) so apparently some new rumor is floating around.

I doubt greatly a new iPhone will be announced now-I think that is more likely April to June. Personally, if a tablet is to be unveiled I doubt Apple will bring anything else out that is substantial-would steal the thunder.

hasn't the tablet rumor been out for nearly a decade now? =)

Perhaps to one extent or another, but my reading of the stock market is that it is strongly assumed the product announcement WILL be a tablet. Anything less than a new product line will send the stock tumbling IMO.

the iphone already does background tasks, FYI.

Not true background tasks. Only Apple (and maybe a few special ones) are allowed to run in the background. Other apps have to use a remote server running a process on your behalf which then pushes you notifications.

Having said that, I don't really care for background apps wasting cycles in the background. The only example I can think of that would be useful is for Apps like Pandora.

I want iWork 2010 with better interoperability with Office (exporting/importing DOC, XLS and PPT). Also want Nehalem-based Macbook Pros.

I like the idea of selective background tasks.. check out the Jailbreak app "Kirikae" as an example. Basically makes a little task switcher that will background as you go, but doesn't just keep them running in the background. I think it's a nice compromise and makes the phone SO much more useful.

A Open app store and backgrounding applications would be enough to convince me to buy another iphone. The closed state of the app store is what will keep me from ever buying a new iphone. Until that changes, I'm waiting for something 'good enough' to switch. Nexus is close, i expect the next android release to make it.

Why does the closed nature of the App store prevent you from a new phone? Apple is always about their system so I don't expect that to change. It has good and bad, and IMO the good far outweighs the bad. What app do you need that isn't allowed in the store?

i hope that is true. i would LOVE to see a revamped interface, multitasking, and more. honestly, im more excited by that then anything else. 🙂

if aperture 3/X/2010 comes out, i will also die happy. its in dire need of an update (at least to 64 bit).

Agreed.

If Aperture got selective editing that would be HUGE. I love that aspect of Lightroom, but I really hate all the rest of it.

Google voice, google lattitude, my own personal apps ( without paying 100 bucks a year ), plus the list of stuff people jailbreak for on a daily basis. The app store is my biggest complaint. It's full of mostly garbage, hard to search and the most useful things are banned. If this doesn't change, I'm not buying another iPhone or any other walled garden apple product.

I should note that I own at least 5 grand in apple gear. I love apple desktops. Their attitude to developer and users on the phone just straight up sucks.
