It wasn't too bad. :D

But, I do have to warn those who are planning on taking the test......

....Study Guides/Test practices like Exam Cram, Transcender and especially TroyTec is NOT good enough to allow you to pass easily. These stuff test you too much on OSI, troubleshoot and IEEE 802 which is too easy. This covers 70-75% of the test.

The 2 main things on the test was:

Protocols. (Connection, connectionless, IPX/SPX, TCP/IP, UDP, frame, packet and etc...)
DOS command with their switches. (like NBTSTAT, NETSTAT, ARP, ROUTE, RARP and etc...)
This covers 20-25% of the test.

I suggest you play with the DOS commands a LOT.

Best course of action:

Read both Exam Cram Network+ and Exam Cram Network+ test practices books.
Reread the protocol and DOS command chapters over and over.....
Use this site to practice: Here

Need test materials?...you know where to find me. :D

hey buddist, you could probably pass but why bother... you got your ccna already, that in itself is worth much more than any comptia exam... except maybe a+ if your a techician. only reason i took them all is that work paid for it! :) to answer your question though, you COULD pass, but do yourself a favour a review the notes on cramsession.com and examnotes.com... peace out.

I bet it was some of the protocols I missed, schoolsucks.

Mday, I think the new Network+ exam start at the first month of 2002.

I'm gunning for CCNA now and in fact, CCNA is just like Network+...only more details.

Just think of CCNA as the advanced network+.

I went to Barnes & noble and checked out some CCNA books which I answers 80-85% of the questions. It isn't that bad.

Hey Buddhist, what should I watch out for in the CCNA test and is CCNA 2.0 the newest version? Will it stay at version 2 for a while?

....nah bigbootydaddy, I feel soooo good that I could kill you in my sleep. ;)

hey neotechman...got your icq pager and read the post (at same time ;) )

The ccna should remain at 2.0 for awhile as it was just changed last year i believe to become 2.0 Thats not to say however that it doesn't have its significant share of legacy technology included in it. :(

By any means, the best book i can recommend which is easy to understand etc is

Sybex's Todd Lamlee Study guide. (hard cover)

If your interested in it, i'd trade you my left over copy for your network + stuff. :)
Also, the cisco press books are way better for anything more complicated then the CCNA stuff...like CCNP CCDP stuff.

The one thing that helped me the best was taking the www.boson.com practice tests. Those things are awesome because when you get the question wrong it has a default option of allowing you to see why you got it wrong and what answer was correct and the reason why it is correct as well as references for further information. So i'd most definately recommend that. BTW the passing score for the CCNA is up in the 85% range so its DAMN hard to pass! I was lucky and squeked by on the first time with a couple of percent over pass...hehe

With regards to what to whatchout...know your OSI layers well (no duh, seems pretty basic) and know subnet masking as well as basic cisco IOS commands... uhmm protocols, OSPF being the hardest...doesn't go into bgp i think. other then that it goes into detail stuff like basic ISDN and VLANS. :)
Good luck!
