No biggie.

Though it was my first royal ever and I've been playing poker forever. It was in online poker though and as I've stated many times in the past I don't think online cards are truly shuffled like they should be. I notice lots and lots of patterns in online poker. Computer programs cannot shuffle and deal like actual humans (obviously).

Anyways it was cool and I should really get to sleep now.

edit: now with proof: Royal Flush

I almost didn't even notice it because I was reading stuff online and just kinda phoning it in when the poker screen popped up. But I was lucky enough to see it before it was gone and take a screenshot. Apparently I was all in before the hand was dealt too :p

He could have been playing online for real money, you never know.

I'm pissed off at facebook poker right now, and it's because of the "patterns" you speak of. It seems like there are always 4 out of 5 cards needed for a straight on the board, or the river rats always get the card they're looking for, etc. It just seems fixed. At least people play somewhat realistically with their chips on facebook poker, unlike some of the other sites where people seem to go all in every time.

Anyhoo congrats on the royal... sweet :) I've only had a straight flush once on pokerstars and I took a screenshot. :D

ha, in my poker group we have a special house rule: if you get a royal flush, you win the night, and everybody hands over their chips.

we're still waiting for someone to get that royal flush :(

What would happen if it happens on the first hand of the night? Would make for a quick night.

You, sir, know not what you are talking about.

Modern poker programs shuffle exactly how humans do--they use random number generators to put the deck in an order, then deal from there.

And if you're smart enough to notice "lots and lots of patters" from a randomizer that probably uses on the order of 10^20 combinations, I'd say you're quicker than most.

It's not surprising that he'd recognize "patterns," but obviously they're all in his head. The patterns that are meaningful to him are meaningless to the computer that is shuffling the cards. It's like "cold readings" from psychics (see: John Edward). People (stupid people) fall for it because they focus on the things the "psychic" got right and disregard the many misses that it took to get to one correct fact. The OP sees patterns because he ignores the data that doesn't support that conclusion.

What kind of drugs are you on? Computer shuffling can easily be truly random, that's programming 101.

When I first started playing online, I got one on Pokerroom.com. It was only play money but I won a t-shirt for it.

I've had about 7 Royals playing online. OK so I play a lot, but usually only for play chips. Four out of the seven have come from Omaha Hi-Lo, which is much easier to hit since you get four hold cards.

Pseudorandom. Unless you're getting your random numbers from a photon detector, which you aren't. That's programming 101.

Really? Never noticed dealers at Casinos use random number generators to put the deck in order :p - Don't you see how contradictory your statement is? Heh.

But since I don't know a whole lot about programming, I know I definitely could be wrong. But I've always strongly felt that the system computer poker games use to "shuffle" doesn't have all the bugs worked out, and has a lot of patterns (for instance, my royal flush was inbetween 2 other straights which had 4 out of the 5 cards needed on the table). That's just what I think though, again, could be wrong.

Added pic to OP: Royal Flush

Yeah it was just play money =/ - For one thing I'm broke, but also I have a hunch that if I were to play real money I'd get somewhat addicted and head into a downward gambling spiral. I probably wouldn't mind playing poker in an actual Casino though, since I don't really trust online poker (obviously).

Flopped a straight iwth a royal flush draw. Guy flopped a straight flush. River gave me the royal flush and we pushed... not gained much in heads up play in a tournament... But that hand I guess made it easier for me to secure 1st place although we were swinging back and forth.

It's pokerstars, they have like 1000 tables all with weird names.
