Got a bunch of 750 Thunderbirds in. Week 24, 26 and 27. I popped a few open and so far they have all had 900 cores in them!

Woohoo!

Goldfinger here we go!

That's great. Here's a thought, when AMD moves to all socket A how are they going to 'hide' the actual core speed.

DaddyG,
AMD will just remark their cores, much like they did in the old days, I would assume...IE. I have a k6-2 350 that is really a 400...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++==

A question for you jonnyG: Do they work on the k7v mobos?

EDIT: Saw your post at amdzone. Really strange. I wish someone would do a thorough test on which t-birds work on which mobos...

Fish,

I know that the cores can be remarked, but AMD was supposed to 'Laser Etch' the speed onto the core. Guess they could do this after they decide to sell the chip at a slower speed.

The ones I have work in the K7V, but then again, they're only 750s! ;)

The 900s still don't work worth a crap, though. I don't like KX133 anyway! :p

Now I'm playing with a Duron in a K7T Pro. Ho hum in comparison! :p

JonnyG,
Can you explain further, is it the 750's with the 900 cores that don't work with KX133 or 'native' 900's. Thanx in advance.

Sorry I'm late.

The 750 w/ 900 core DOES work @ 750, but not neccessarily when you crank it UP TO 900.

For example: The K7V will work with the CPU @ 750. Crank that 750 up to 900 and it'll lock.

Are those the $199 750's you have listed on the site? If so, hold one for me, I'll be ordering. ;)

We can't guarantee anything since one would have to actually pop open a CPU to truly see what the core is, but if you ask everyone that has ever popped one open (and there are a bunch of them talking over at AMD Zone) they would likely tell you that the core was a 950.

Well, if you have one that you've popped open, I'll be willing to take that off your hands... I'd pop it myself anyway :p
