Won't recognize sata

When I first booted up my most recent build the board wouldn't detect the sata hdd I put in there. I went into bios and set sata from raid to ide, it worked. Yesterday I popped in a new psu on that computer and had to unplug the sata cable from the drive to get the power cable in. After getting everything plugged in again the motherboard wouldn't pick up the drive. I am not 100% sure how this went wrong. I've adjusted bios a few times with no success, and I've also tried a different cable. I've even tried the 4 pin molex cable instead of the sata power cable (the drive had both, and I didn't use both at once). I'm stumped.

You may have plugged the drive into the incorrect SATA jack on the motherboard, or you may have had the BIOS inadvertently revert to its RAID games. Check the BIOS, and confirm that the drive's hooked up to the controller you intended to hook it up to, if the board has more than one. further SATA primer if needed

also make sure that the sata inputs are enabled in the bios. it may be possible to turn them off, never hurts to double check that the ones you're using are active
