Wont recognize OS unless you go into BIOS and exit? Strange strange problem with SE440BX-2

I was trying figure out why everytime a friends comp booted, it would say no OS. I know its not the hard drive, because it works well in another computer. The strange thing is that the HD is only detected when you go into the BIOS and then exit (w/o touching a single thing). I have flashed the BIOS to the newest version, no go. Anyone? I know this is a old board. Im thinking it has something to do with the battery? Thanks,

James

Yea, I was going to do that, but I couldnt figure out why it would work, even though I did not change a single setting? Guess I gotta go look for a battery
