Hey, I just assembled my first computer today. I have (had) 2 sata hdd. My motherboard is a chaintech vnf3-250, with 2 sata controllers. I have a enermax EG465P-VE 24P RT, with sata adapters. The problem is the following: when I first booted my computer it did not boot, so I unplugged the one of the SATA hard drives and it booted. I kept trying again with the non working hard drive, trying to get it to boot, until I smelled something burn, which I immediately removed the drive. The top drive allowed the computer to boot fine. It still does. And no smoke. The problem is that when I tried to install windows it said that it could not detect a hd to install on. How do I get my computer to recoginze this hard drive? I went to the standard cmos setup and it lists:
IDE Primary Master: My CD-ROM drive
IDE Primary Slave: None
IDE Secondary Master: None
IDE Secondary Slave: None

Drive A: 1.44M, 3.5 in
Drive B: None

I messed with all of the IDE drives trying to do the IDE HDD Auto-Detection, to see if it would find anything. But nothing.

So what is my problem? How can I make this hdd work? And why did I burn my other one?

Thanks,

dokey,

you'll need to d/l the sata drivers for that particular mobo and copy them to a floppy. during the windows installation, hit f6 at the very beginning. while windows loads, it'll pull those sata drivers off the floppy and allow you to install windows.

you also want to enable scsi in the bios, since that's akin to sata drives.

these 2 things should get you up and running.
