won't recognize blank cd-r

I am using nero 5.5.2.4 and when I go to burn a cd-r it tells me to insert blank cd.....one problem the blank cd is in. I have tried several blanks and a couple different ones. I had seen a post on another forum that someone thought the problem was with EZCD Creator. They took it out and used Nero and all their problems were gone. So...I uninstalled both EZCD and Nero and re-installed only Nero.....same problem. One thing ....It will recognize a cd-rw disc just not cd-r's (ugh). Anyone help me out with this one or any thoughts?
