Won't power on?

Ok, so I have been using the rig below for about 2 weeks no problems using a seasonic s12 380w. I left my computer running while I go to see a movie, I come back and its off. Peculiar. I hit the power button on my case- no dice. Flip the psu power switch off then on, same result. Switched outlets... nothing. Now is when I realize I truly have a problem.

So I take the side off of my case, both of my power LED's are lit. I hit the front power switch one more time, all the fans in my case seem to try to spin for a split second then give up. If I hit the swtich again, nothing happens. But if I flip the psu switch in the back off then on and then hit the power button I get it. I tried turning on with the power button on my mobo, exact same phenomena as with the front case power button.

Whats going on?

Nay. A psu, especially a seasonic, wouldn't just randomly die like that after only 2 weeks would it? And if it did I surely would be able to smell it burnt out right? And if the psu was dead why would the power led's still be lit?

Also, when I attempt to turn on I get a small noise. i have to put my head in the case just to hear it. Im not sure if its the side fan, cpu, or psu making it. To describe it, I'd say its a split second buzz of what you hear when the cable goes out or when you connected to aol via dialup way back in the day.

IMO, Never say never.
I have seen instances of Seasonics failing, but those occasions I admit are far in between. but there's always that rare possibility happening.

If you pulled 1 stick of RAM and switched again with the other,
If you checked any burnt odors, look at mobo for burnt marks.
If you reseated all your components,
If you checked your cpu seating, gpu seating,
Then maybe at last you might switchout your psu.

Good luck.

Yes, never say never. Every product has a chance of failing. Was your computer connected to an uninterruptible power supply? Do you happen to know if your house experiences brown outs? This could all have lead to a failed PSU. But again, never assume that your products cannot be susceptible to dying by any means.

Before I go about reseating, where could I get a psu I could just return no strings attached after testing?

MIR is mailed in rebate.

After you buy, you fill out rebate form included with PSU, and mail back to posted addressee.

You get $40 in mail after waiting a period of time. standard procedure in instances like this.

See printable rebate form.

I know what it means, whats the command for the smiley with the unsure eyes. Thats what I was going for. I dont have $40 to buy it now, and I don't wanna rely on a MIR when money is tight.

So am I just exetremely unlucky, is the psu the underlying cause, or could it be something else? My Western Digital drive failed about a week after i was up and running. Are these related? Kind of rare for two products from such good makers to just go bonkers.

And after reading this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp...04&contentId=1117177044087&id=cat12098 would I be right in assuming that I could grab a overpriced antec and use that until the RMA for my Seasonic comes in, assuming the psu is the problem?

Yes, bad psu's can and do kill other components.

Purchasing any item with the intent on using it for a given period of time and returning it before the due date expires is unethical. This is one reason the liberal return policies are becoming scarce.

1) Surely there is someone in your town that can test a power supply
2) If your PSU is bad RMA it. If it's not bad Seasonic will charge you $25 :p

Is their a way I can plug in my psu to just run fans, that way I can rule the mobo out?

K, so I shoved some scissors (sp? lol) and connected the green and black wire, and I have fan spin. So, can I now conclude it is the mobo? I always thought this mobo wasn't completely right. I had no onboard audio, and hit a oc wall at 240x10.

Hmm, I don't know which way to go. It COULD be a bad psu, which though it still gives power, which therefore could have killed both my mobo and my hd. But the mobo utility reported that voltages are rockon (yea i know, software readings are meh) and I never had an issue with keeping stable under load.

OR is it just a coincidence that both my hd and mobo went bad?

Ugh, guidance please?
