Won't Martha Stewart be going to a minimum security prison which is basically like a club house?

Nocturnal

Since it was a white collar crime, won't she just go to some minimum security prison where its basically like a club house in that she has a tv in her cell, air condition etc basically she can roam around freely just at the jail. Am I right?

Do you guys think its fair that she is free while her counsel is appealing the case?

You can't really roam around free in any jail. But yes, she won't be sent to Rikers or anything.

Well I mean it isn't really going to be like "jail" for her. I've heard of many min security jails in which you're not even treated like a prisonor. It's mainly a club house type of deal where I guess you can't roam around freely 24/7 but you aren't going to get raped by anyone and you definately do not need to worry about dropping the soap.

The deal is it's still prison and it sucks. The good news is you are usually safe from getting raped or killed as most will be out soon. The guards are nice because people tend to listen when someone with money reports a crime + they may even be fans.

She's not going to be sitting by any pool with a frozen daquari though.

Actually, the comfy "club fed" white collar prisons don't really exist anymore. She'll go to minimum security, most likely, but it wont be anything like a country club.

Actually, she probably will be. She'll be going to Danbury, which is a low security prison. A lot of people that are in low security prisons are in for drug offenses. According to CNN she's actually gonna get it rougher (relatively speaking) than most male white collar criminals just because there are so few female white collar criminals. Since there are so few females, there are also no "work camp" type places that some male white collar felons go to.

any real detailed info on these so called club house jails we so often hear about in these famous cases but never ever see?

Actually you can.
The female sections of prison are generally more "courtyard" oriented.

All these people talking about country club prisons when they really don't know what they're talking about.
Bottom line is, she is going to be detained, against her will, for 5 months. She probably won't be sharing a cell with murderers or crack whores, but any prison sucks.

Well, any place other than her own home or vacation areas are probably going to be uncomfortable for her...

anybody here actually been inside a prison that would like to comment?

Most are sh!tholes. Federal prisons are worse than state prisons as well.

Had a family member in federal minimum security. It's crowded, noisy, smelly, the food sucks, the inmates are borderline mentally retarded, and the cops (guards) aren't much better. Everyone with a position of authority will abuse it to the fullest extent, including the warden, who probably got their degree from a mail-order institution.

In terms of the actual facilities, you're not terribly worse than bottom of the barrel state-school dorm living. Except the people you are sharing it with are mostly not even high-school material, much less college.

And, keep in mind, EVERYONE will instantly recognize Martha Stewart. I'm sure that will go over well for her.

Thank you. Someone who knows.

i personally am really divided on this issue.

it is clear she should do time. she broke the law.

what annoys me is that she will probably do more time and harder time than the enron guys.

if it were up to me, i'd let martha stewart go with a slap on the wrists and i'd send the enron guys to rikers.

that's just me tho.

Federal Prisons are all the same, the only difference between minimum and maximum security is how much protection they have on the outside to keep the prisoners in. Granted the people in minimum security prisons are less dangerous (from the judges views) to society, doesn't necessarily mean that they are less dangerous when no authorities are around. But it's Martha...if she gets hurt, the guards wives will be kicking the crap out of them.
