Hello, I have 2 DVD drives on IDE2, and 2 hard drives on IDE1. When I have the DVD IDE (IDE2) connected to my mobo, I get a message about picking a correct boot device. If I unplug the DVD IDE from the mobo, and just have the IDE with my hard drives on it, it boots fine. What is the problem? Also, just to add a little more information, when I do have the DVD IDE plugged into the motherboard the bios does not recognize anything, not even my hard drives that work.

Thanks in advance.

Firstly, you'd probably get better performance if you put 1 hd and 1dvd on each channel.

Head whirring.....
Lets get this straight, everything is ok untill you plug in one of the dvd drives (slave or master?).
Are these dvd drives the same model?
Make it easier - name the dvd drives, and the one that doesn't work and in which slot?

I can't I only have 2 IDE slots on my mobo, so I have 2 hd's running to one slot, and two DVD drives running to the other.

What I meant by a Channel is one of your IDE cables running to the mobo - both cables have got 2 slots, obviously, for 2 drives.
Each channel can take 2 IDE devices.

On your main Channel going to the mobo (usually IDE0, or sometimes IDE1), put your main hdd as primary, and one of the dvd as slave.
Make sure you jumper them correctly - the postition on the cable shouldn't be essential depending on your system.
On your secondary Channel, (usually IDE1 or sometimes IDE2 (see above)), put the other 2 devices, again, making sure you have one Master, one Slave.

Make sure you have jumpered the drive at the end of the cable as Master and the one in the middle of the cable as Slave.
