Won't boot from previous Windows install

Potentially dumb question incoming:
I got a new SSD and reinstalled W8.1. Unfortunately my usb3.0 ports don't work anymore now and I can't find a solution.
So I figured I'd plug my old SSD back in and see what the difference between the two installs could be. It POSTs fine but then it won't boot into Windows, screen just goes black.
Is there some obvious reason why this won't work? (Cleared CMOS just to be sure.)

Yea, and my other devices were probably part of the issue.
I checked the diskpart utility in the recovery console and for some reason my Windows partition got moved down to E:/ So I rebuilt the bootloader and it booted right up.
Too bad my usb3.0 ports stopped working on my old install as well now... Still clueless on that one, but thanks ;)

Probably a mobo driver is missing. Check control panel to see if driver is listed. If it isn't go to motherboard manufacturers site and download it.

If it is listed you might want to unistall the driver and try a manual install.

Had a feeling that was it, hence the question. Good job!

The USB 3.0 one is weird though. If it now doesn't work on either install though, I would start checking the BIOS.

Yea, I've been over the bios a dozen times but there's only a couple settings related to USB. Asus doesn't have any renesas usb drivers beyond the initial 2011 ones. Tried all kinds of drivers and firmware from station-drivers. It all looks in order in device manager, but no results.
I've just accepted it now to preserve my sanity ;). That's what you get with tacked on mobo features and weak support I guess.
