Wonky wireless access

This is a peculiar one, and Linksys has been no help. Hope you all can.

I bought a wireless access point, a Linksys WAP54G, and hooked it up to one of the ports on my gigabit EG005W switch. At this point, it's unsecured. The wireless Ethernet plug on my XBox 360 works flawlessly, no problems. But two different laptops that normally work fine in other wireless networks can't get any connection. Can't get an IP address at all.

All laptops run Windows XP SP2, latest patches, etc. I can go to a public Internet cafe or hotel and turn this thing on and find a network immediately. But no luck at home, at all.

Any ideas?
