Wonky notebook DVD-RW

Greetings,

I just purchased a used notebook and now trying to use it, the DVD drive refuses to open up. Pressing the button garners no response at all from the drive. I can still insert a paperclip and open it up and then the drive will read cd's just fine, but for whatever reason just refuses to open when the button is pressed.

There is the rare occasion--such as when it's in the middle of reading a cd--it will seem to want to respond and it will open when I press the button. Is there anything I can do to fix this, outside of getting a brand new drive? Can I take it apart? Is this a frequent notebook problem?

The notebook is Compaq V3015NR

Thanks.

Try right-clicking on it in Windows Explorer and selecting "eject." My notebook has done that a few times, seems like Windows locks it for whatever reason. At least, that's what it seems. Anyone have a better solution?

Yeah, unfortunately, that also does nothing :/

But due to that, I suppose it helps diagnose. I figure since trying to eject it via windows doesn't work, it probably means the thing is having some sort of mechanical error. I don't really have the money or want to replace it with a $60 notebook drive, since I wont use it THAT much.

then you wouldn't ask for help with your cd/dvd drive.

Or...or, maybe I just want it to work properly even if I'm not going to use it frequently?

Sound logic, what a novelty, eh?
