Wondering which Celeron is the best for this situation

Hi there!

I've been looking to buy a new Celeron to replace my aging 366 (Of the Slot 1 variety that won't hit 550... *sigh*) so I've been looking at the 566 and 600. Now, the only criteria I have is that I can run it @ 100 Mhz FSB with the stock heatsink and fan included in the retail box. My brother had bought a 566 back when they were first released, but it can only reach 707 @ 83 MhZ FSB. I'm just wondering if the overclock-ability of the celerons has increased, really. :) Thanks!

Hi!

Try checking out www.overclockers.com There is a cpu database there which you can look up a certain model of cpu and check the results on how high ppl have OC'ed them.

Yeah, overclockability has definitely increased some. You can realistically expect to get between 800-1000MHz of any Celeron 600+.

Good luck!

Yup, I recommend the Celeron 600mhz. There are somewhat mixed batches of this cpu. Some have clocked it over 1Ghz, other can't oc' it at all. I personally have oc´ed mine to 720mhz. Can´t go any higher because my Aopen AX3S board will only go as high as 80mhz in FSB :-(

Best regards,
Ivar

Thanks for the advice! :) I'll probably pick up a Celeron 600 near the end of the week. My girlfriend is splitting the cost with me, since it's my birthday! Yay! *grin*

Thanks again!
