Check
Accompanying letter

The check looks real. I'm wondering if I could simply cash the check and keep the $...is this a scam?

EDIT: The letter and check are addressed to me. My spidey-sense was tingling but I couldn't figure out the angle of the scam. I could call Citibank and verify that the account has funds.

EDIT 2: After calling the ph# to verify funds, voice menu reports that the check was paid 12 months ago.

Letter not found. Probably an EXPENSIVE loan based only on the check image.

Use some common sense. Why would you receive a check in that amount? And why bother trying to cash it.

You know it's not yours. So don't try to cash it. What follows afterwards is known as karma.

Citibank had a change of heart and is liquidating their company. Every person in America gets $3,890. Enjoy!

The letter has scam written all over it.
1) You probably didn't enter this contest.
2) A small trip is worth $50k?
3) They have the money supposedly but for some reason didn't just give it all to you.
4) They pay you for taxes, but not nearly enough (~35% income tax on $50k isn't $3,890).
5) Advance ______ (fil lin the blank). Why not just give you the prize?

Financial institutions can confirm the validity of checks marked "Issued by Integrated Payment Systems, Inc., Englewood, Colorado" by calling 1-800-223-7520 and following the guided menu.

Take it to the bank and when they say it's fake let them take care of reporting it.

Free money is always a scam, unless it comes from your Mom or you happen to be the one doing the scamming.
