I'm selling a TV on craigslist and the buyer sent me an email saying this:

I would have love to come and see the item at you place but I'm presently not
around just been transfered from work to Mexico that is why i will be paying through a certified cashier check or a money order and i will be responsible for the shipment ok and the pickup. As soon as you receive the payment and it clears in your bank you will be deducting your actual fund and send the remaining amount to my shipping agent via western union money transfer. They will be the one to do the pick-up at your place ok..In the meantime i will like to have your
full name
contact address and
phone number
in other for the payment to be sent to you in time. Also i will want u to remove the item from the site so that no one will contact u for it again.

Kindly get back to me as soon as possible
Regards.
John

Any scam here u see?

I've only gotten a few other responses so far, but it's also only been posted a couple days. I think i will just wait for another buyer. :)

He's going to send you an invalid cashier's check or bank money order. It will take up to a month for it to fully clear (even though it may "clear" in less than a week, it will turn up as invalid later on in the month). You wind up sending the balance and the product to him, so you're out both.

If he has a western union account, why not send it (the money he owes you) via western union ;)

Isn't the purpose of Craiglist to find local buyers? Please correct me if this is incorrect.

Slightly unusual grammar.
Certified Cashier's check.
Foreign country.
Western Union money transfer.
Their own "shipping agent."

Nope, nothing at all suspicious about this.

I simply never knew that "certified cashiers checks" and money orders could be invalid yet clear the bank.
"NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)"

Oh darn it. I guess that means I shouldn't have sent that kindly gentleman copies of my house keys. He said that he'd come to my house and pick up the TV himself. That way, I wouldn't be inconvenienced by having to be at home when he was here. He told me to have a "glorious god bless day," so I figured he was on the level.
Dammit.

How common is it for criminals to pose as buyers and then come to your place to rob you?

A normal human being would just ask to see the TV and give you a number. There's no need to write an essay just to buy an item on CL. And yes, cash is the only acceptable payment I would take for CL sales.
