Wondering how well my PC will perform?

Well, for the past 1.5 years, I've been using my laptop for all of my gaming and have left my PC out in the cold to collect dust. :( It's a great laptop mind you, but it's starting to show a bit of it's age. Anyway, I wanted to know how well this desktop will compete with most modern day hardware/current games.

I have 4 GB RAM, AMD x2 5200 2.7 GHZ, and a HD2900XT. Will it perform comparably well still, or will it show it's age? I'm going to be playing mostly any game possible. So just compare it with... let's say... L4D2, MW2, ME2, Bad Company...2... Why are there so many damn 2's! Anyway, just anything of that sort! Thank you!

Well it depends on what perform well means to you and expect to play them on low settings.

So low settings for all of those games is what you're expecting me to be able to play them at?

Well it really depends on what resolution you game at. Most of those games on there are still on old game engines like L4D2 and ME2 and MW2 so you should be able to play them decently. BF:BC2 there aren't any benchmarks out yet but it doesn't seem to be too taxing from what I'm hearing.

Well, I'd try to benefit my monitor's resolution by going at 1920x1080, but if it's that sluggish, I can move it down to something a little lower. I still want good quality, but I'd prefer playability over quality. I just don't want it to look like it came from 2000. I actually want it to still look rather good.

Oh yea at that rez you're definitely going to have tons of slow down. I upgraded to a 1920x1080 monitor last week and with my system I get slowdowns at certain times with games that I used to be able to max out easily at 1280x1024.

Hmm based on my experience with a 8600m GT (much worse than your card) you should be able to play all those at medium/high at 1440x900 or 1600x1200, somwhere around there. Dont be afraid using resolutions that arent "native" as long as it looks good to you its fine.

Also brave little toaster ftw!
