First release date I heard was November 2004, if I recall correctly. It later got changed to December, then to January. This post is the first I have heard of it being released in February.

It was also far more entertaining than a reality show or WB teen drama.

I would have agreed with you a coup-le of years ago.
But more and more shows are cutting down to 13
go on amazon and check out some of the dvd season sets
you will see

Hm... I'll take your word for it, as I'm lazy. That sucks though.
 
A lot of shows have a first season that runs even less than 13 shows for a testbed. For example Buffy The Vampire Slayer's first season was only 12.
