CRTs are too big and heavy. People want sleek, thin and light. Who cares about viewing angles and color accuracy?

Wouldn't be surprised if 5 years from now, 27" LCD's will be viewed as equally obsolete, as everyone is busy fondling their 7" tablets. The desktop computer is dying - the move from CRTs to LCD's was just the beginning of a long, painful decline.

I care about viewing angles and color accuracy and some on this site do.

You are correct though, average best buy shopper doesn't know the difference between a LCD/LED, IPS/TN/MVA etc etc

Desktop machine will be kept around for power.

You will never be able to cram sli or 32GB's of ram into a laptop currently. Also if you run a business at home that requires a powerful machine you will be using a desktop.

We will are seeing a shift now as mobile devices get more powerful but space and heat restriction will make sure a desktop will be around in the future.

Damn straight man, nothing heats up a room or stops a desk from floating like a good CRT.

BITD, cpus/gpus didn't put out very much heat, either. Now that your cpu/gpu can heat up the room aleady, a CRT would be much more noticeable/annoying imho.

Sony must still have some left collecting cobwebs for safety stock/RMA Warranty purposes when the monitor was still selling back in the days. Whom ever finds them will hit the lotto.
This monitor came out back no later than 2001. Any warranty is long gone.

You already know the answer. There is no market. It would be a huge money loser. Sony pulled out of the CRT market a long time ago when it was clear that is was a dead end industry.

Ironic because their flat panel division is now running them into the red, not because LCDs suck but there is too much oversupply.

And I think CRT fans tends to really gloss over the drawbacks too.

Logistics costs. I bet they threw a party the day CRT's stopped shipping. Expensive to pack and transport. Easy to damage in transit.
