That is pretty crappy since they are doing it at intersections with red light cameras.

OP, it depends on your point of view ... if you are the lawyer litigating the case then heck yes. If you a member of the litigating class then heck no. The class usually gets pennies on the dollar while the legal team usually asks for and gets million upon millions of dollars to "represent" the class.

CALs are one of the most profitable legal scams ever devised by the legal profession.

The billionaire in a Rolls Royce pays the same amount as the minimum wage worker with a 12 year old Ford. Much better even than raising the sales tax because while the rich spend a smaller percentage of their income on taxable goods they still spend more than the average person. Better than raising the property tax because the rich live in more expensive homes.

So, instead of paying for government by a progressive income tax, or any other kind of tax that might cause a rich person to pay more than a poor one, we have things like the "red light tax". After all when a Republican runs for re-election he can say he didn't raise taxes and yet the bridges haven't fallen down or a plague hasn't killed his valued voters.

No, it's a really useful method of citizen regulation. Individuals aren't harmed to a large enough extent to make litigation worthwhile, but collectively society is being hurt.

yeap. its rather disgusting. they shorten it to a time that is unsafe.

I am against redlight cameras just for this reason. it leads to shady practices.

So, the widespread use of RLC's in Texas are all in Dem. areas?

And the chauffeur wouldn't be ticketed, the vehicle owner would be, as it is with all RLC's. There's no other way RLC tickets can be issued....they are sent to the registered vehicle owner, no matter who was driving.
