A local Chicago radio station (Q101) has been giving away tickets to a Muse/Silversun Pickups concert on March 12th at the United Center all day today. Whether it was having you call and answer random trivia or being a random texter, they were giving away tickets every hour, 45 minutes past the hour.

I was bored at work and listening at 4:45pm today, when a commercial said to text "Muse" to the station number and if you are texter 500 you won the tickets. Every now and then I'd give it a shot when they do these contests but the closest I'd come would be texter #468. I have never won a radio contest before.

On a whim, I thought "Why the hell not?" and texted the word Muse, and sure enough I got a text back stating that I was the winner. A representative from Q101 called me about 10 minutes after that (it took me like 10 minutes for it to sink in that I actually won), and now I am going to see Muse with the GF in March. We're both stoked.

No idea where the seats are going to be but Q101 is a major rock station for the Chicago area so I imagine they are going to be awesome!!!

To make up for this blog-esque thread, Im also going to pose a question to respond to as well: What, if anything, have you won from a radio station? Doesn't have to be concert tickets.

That's badass! Muse puts on one hell of a concert so you two should have a great time.

What, if anything, have you won from a radio station? Doesn't have to be concert tickets.

Nothing major - some movie tickets and some restaurant gift cards for calling in and answering some trivia questions. Considering I haven't listened to local radio in years, I haven't had the chance to do it recently.

I was texter 499 / 500 to see Flogging Molly on St. Patrick's day last year.

I've tried this quite a few times but never won. My roommate however won 2 tickets to day 3 of Lollapalooza.

Congrats.. I will be trying to win as often as I can! Really want to see these guys live.

Isn't Metric playing with them as well? If so I wanted to go to that concert last week when they were in the bay, but $80 and an hour drive was a deal breaker... especially on a wednesday. Btw huge Metric fan, was going to go just for them/

Nice. I won a pair of Passion Pit tickets from XRT a few months back. Couldn't go but sold 'em for $60. Easy money for not much more than clicking a few links.

Also, I've come in at the late 400's for texting to Q101, never won from them though.

Cant say for sure. Q101's website is advertising it as Muse with special guests Silversun Pickups. The concert details at the United Center's website are no help either. Definitely looking forward to going either way though.

I've won tickets to see Pat Benatar, t-shirts, A Texas Rangers jersey (still hanging in my closet), and a key that for a chance to to drive off in a new 300zx and a older 280xz.

most likely, like my Benatar tkts, you probably won standing room only tkts and have to pay a bit extra for a seat. that was at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth.

Congrats, that's a nice xmas bonus for you, hope you and you GF enjoy the event, and keep good memories of it.

Sometimes your lottery numbers do come up. Jealousy sparking in I guess.

Possibly. United Center is a fairly large venue so its tough to say. Regardless of where we end up though, a free show is a free show. I'll update the thread when it gets closer to concert time.

Section 101, Row 8 Seats 7/8. Was an awesome concert. Silversun Pickups was ok (Only know 3 songs of theirs and judging by how they did, those were the only 3 worth knowing). Muse rocked the house though! They gave an amazing performance! Definitely recommend seeing them live!

Don't even know who these people are but guessing from the names of the bands, they are newer girl dressing emo music.

Muse is more popular. Basically play a combo of progressive rock, classical music, hard rock and electronica. Silversun Pickups are definitely more emo-ish which is not my cup of tea, but hey... free tickets. Muse put on a pretty good show. If you need help in comparisons, I'd liken them to Green Day, only better musically, since they are anti-system/government.

muse is basically basically a slight twist on radiohead. i'm not that familiar with the other one, but they're not emo, at least.

also arena concerts ftl. if you're not in the pit, you might as well watch a concert DVD instead.

edit: neither band is really prog.

Surprisingly the acoustics weren't nearly as bad as say the Aragon theater. There was enough room for the sound to travel without it mixing in with the rest of the music being played.

wow, stage setup looks fucking badass

It was pretty cool. 3 skyscraper looking things, which they had windows to the buildings light up at random times as the intro. Then curtains covering the band dropped and each member was in the middle of the building, on a hydraulic set which went up and down to stage level, which you can see in that video.

Man, I went to a concert in San Diego that consisted of this lineup:
Secret Machine, Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It was called the "Miller Lite Independence Jam" in 2004. At the time, all these guys were up-and-coming, like on the verge of the being mainstream.

That was quite possibly the most ultimate concert that I've ever been to. ever. in the history of man. no contest.

Muse completely stole the show, however. They're just simply awesome live. I get pumped up just by remembering when Muse suddenly came on stage and busted out "Apocalypse Please" as their first song.

I'm not too fond of Silversun pickups. Only when I'm drunk, and they're on the radio, I'm ok with them. I'm not denying their talent though. I did heard that they're not as good live =/

mmm.. I donno, Muse is quite unique IMO. I don't think they're anti-system/gov't (haha, I know, their music says otherwise :p), but I get more of a futuristic sound from Muse. Their more recent albums sound more and more like rock operas from a dystopian future. I think their songs go very well with any sci-fi movie with lots of battling going on :p.

Call me weird, but I get this vibe whenever I hear their music: 80's special effects, with an intense space battle raging on against an evil tyrant. muahahahahahahhahaa

I think they really expanded on their first song from their previous album towards their latest album: Take a Bow (which, btw, is an underrated song and it's completely BAD ASS; and the sole reason why I got into Watchmen the movie)
