you need to get the USB cable from Apple.

might as well just get a firewire card.

it shoudl be around the same price, and you'll atleast have firewire expansion.

I run it off firewire from my sony notebook since my dell doesn't have it.

you might also want to pick up a dock.
it seems to charge longer with it.

I tried charging it with just the AC adapter, and it didn't charge completely at all for some reason.

No firewire is not required, you can buy a USB 2.0 cable from Apple and run it off USB 1 or 2. But if you do it off USB 1 it'll be slow...like transfer-overnight-while-you-sleep slow. USB 2 should be fine. I don't really notice any difference charging wise with the dock. Only reason I got the dock was for the line out.

anyways what i want to know is, is a firewire port ABSOLUTELY required? or can i use usb with the dock? also anyone know if dell 8300's have a firewire port in them?

instead of asking if your computer has a firewire port on it, why don't you just get off your ass and look.

I have a Nomad zen currently with 12 gigs of my music with playlists and what not

is there a way I can transfer the tracks and playlists over intact to my ipod or is that not possible, and i have to do manually?

also since they debuted around this time last year, the warranty hopefully isnt out on this yet, would apple let me purchase extended warranty even if i am not the original owner, and have only the ipod, dock, software, manual, firewirecable, i have no box, no earphones no remote.,
