Won a free alarm system...what to do with my certificate?

Hi.
I just won a free alarm system that is worth $329, but they are charging $99 for the installation otherwise I can't claim the prize. The alarm system is a "PRO1000 Vehicle Security System with panic feature, intrusion alert, top of the line dual guard impact sensor." I really don't need an alarm system, and I was wondering if maybe I should sell the certificate to claim this prize. But then I remembered that insurance companies give disouncts to people with installed alarm systems. Our family has 2 cars right now, one of them being a 2002 Protege. We are also planning on getting a minivan (don't know which one) soon, and I will get the 02 Protege for university next year (I'm 17 right now). Would the insurance discount be enough to make this a good deal? Would I save more money if I chose to install the alarm on a minivan (one of my parents will drive that, the minivan is a more expensive car), or will I save more money if I install the alarm on my Protege (since I am a teenager, and the insurance companies charge more)? Which option is the most benefit for me? Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Usualy insurance discounts are only for trackable systems, like lo-jack. I'd get it anyway for the keyless entry part if you car doesn't already have it.

Call you insurance company and ask. Here they give different discounts for different classes of alarms. They'll tell you if it is worth it.

Nope. I already have keyless entry. I really doubt anyone would try to steal/break-in to my average Protege/minivan (that will be in a garage during the night) since there are many nicer cars out there.

I'm guessing it's an alarm system that's only worth $99 installed. Did you fill out a coupon at the mall or something? How did you win?

Sorry ni4ni, but you can't buy it, unless you just happen to live in Calgary. The certificate I got states that in order to claim the prize, I must go directly to their store and pay $99 for the installation to be done. The alarm itself is free, but I can only get it if I pay for the installation.

kranky: This is not a coupon. I was working at an RV show for a few days and I had an hour to waste, so I wandered around filling out all the draws that the various companies had out. I just happened to win this.

I was being sarcastic...

all you 'won' is a cheap car alarm system worth $99.
this is a common marketing scheme.
guess what, everybody that entered that drawing won the same car alarm.

here is place that had that same car alarm on sale for $64 shipped.
also if you did go to claim your prize i'm sure they'd talk you into some upgrades.
