When I was avidly playing LOTRO we had several women in our kinship. They all played with their SOs and probably would not have been playing at all if they were single (just my guess).

Solitaire/Minesweeper != "PC Gaming"

That's like saying housewives in the 25-39 age demo make up 38% of "Construction Jobs" because they hammer a nail into a wall to hang a painting.

Construction workers are overwhelmingly male, video gamers are too. You can jigger a stat to say whatever you want if you configure the parameters in a strange enough way.

A Tale In The Dessert has a large percentage of female gamers as well (might be close to 50/50, even).

Most of the females I know play the Gamehouse/Popcap type of games.
(Seek and find, mystery solving, puzzle games, etc)
Mostly what people would call "casual games", but it's still PC gaming nonetheless.

I'd be more interested in a study of how many girls play modern PC games, that is anything produced after the mid-1990s. Solitaire and free/cheap browser/flash games wouldn't count, but older games like Fallout would.

Gah, it's hard to draw the line now that you can play Quake 3 in a browser...

Ya, it is a pretty poorly constructed study that lumps casual/hardcore gamers together with people who play solitare/chess/poker on their computer and then call them all gamers under the same heading.

So (relatively) good chances then to get some tail in the desert?
