Some of you may find it interesting that women are already faster than men at extreme distance running, and by extreme I mean races exceeding 100 miles.

I'm a marathoner and have a buddy who is training for the Western States 100. For me the marathon (or at most a 50k race) is the ultimate distance. Why anybody would subject themselves to such toture like enduring 100 or even 200 mile races is beyond comprehention, but let it be known that women dominate!

200 miles nonstop?

are you serious

At that point it's not speed. It's the ability to just keep moving. It's more or less a given that women have a better pain threshold then men, and that's whats needed to keep you gonig on those psychotic events.

whoever actually "researched" this has got to be retarded

i guess by 2156 we will be able to high jump 3 meters

and in a few thousand years we'll be able to run the 100 meters in -.5 seconds

i have been benching 5/lbs more a week

and in a 20 years i'll be able to bench 1000 lbs

it's true, what's that woman who won it the past few years... I can't remember her name but there was an article in Runner's World about her. Women can use fuel more efficiently than men and have more fat to burn, so they are better at extreme distance races.

I'd love to do the Western States sometime, but that may just be a wee bit too far for me 🙂

Statistics can say anything if you project them far enough.

Exactly, if you take it far enough, the 100 meters will run you!

This article is absolute garbage.

They took two linear regression plots, observed their intersection, and discovered on the basis of this that "Whoa, women will be faster than men in 150 years".

This piece of crap wouldn't cut it as a research project at a high school science class. It was only published because of the PC hysteria that grips academia, one that I can attest to being a recent graduate of Cornell, where I saw standards of scholarship being degraded daily in order to accomodate feminists, black nationalists, homosexuals, etc.

How about this explanation: women's sports are not at the level of competitiveness that men's sports are, or at least they were not so for a long a time. The demographic base of most sports is much smaller for women than it is for men, because in much of the world there are fewer opportunities for women in sports. So of course, as more women have gotten involved in sports, lap times and other records for women have fallen faster than they have for men. This does not mean that the best women will be outrunning the best men anytime soon, or ever.
