Women and electronics, computers, etc...

I know this is a broad generalization, but I think it will hold true for the most part. We have a few women here on our IT staff. They are intelligent, helpful, and nice...but it seems like they lack any kind of critical thinking when it comes to solving a helpdesk problem.

For instance, you can teach them how to fix a problem. If another problem arises that may be similar to that one, but not the same, they will try that same fix. If that fix does not work, they give up, and ask for help.

Also, if you "move" something to a different, more convienent place, they freak, as it is not in the same place, and they can't look for it.

I've found these same rules apply when it comes to small electronics, automobiles, etc.

Are men and women wired differently, or is it an environmental thing?

Men are better at logical reasoning. Computers and problem solving = logic.

What you really mean is:

Men are better at guessing. Computer problems are solved by the best guess and hopefully it won't happen again. 😛

men and women are different in some ways. your strengths may be our weaknesses and visa versa. it makes males and females compliment each other nicely.

Men are far more willing to learn than women and ot take chances. Women are "oh, I don't think we should do that, it might screw something up" whereas the guys are "Let's see what this does"

....at least in all my experience. I don't know too many women who take risks (even on the small stuff)

Yeah you're right on. Female friends I know that are around my age (21) have an extremely hard time with such things. I can't believe my roommate talked his gf through setting up a router. I swear that house/apt full of 21 year old girls is pretty helpless. (tho I give them credit, they got it going and I think he even talked them through setting up a bit of security on the wireless, but they didn't even get at first that the router simply needed a cable to the modem and a cable for power.. "OK, power is the one that plugs into the wall outlet, got it".. "what one??")

Its like they want the guys to know all about electronics, cars, money and crap, but what are they gonna do for me? I can cook better than most of them I know! 🙂

i'm not trying to say this is always the case but most of the guys i know are better at more hands on (double entaundre anyone?) things than girls i know.

From what I've gathered from my mother and sister especially is yes they do "think" differently. They appear not to have the same logic processing capabilities as myself or my father. I don't know how much we know about the brain, but I wouldn't be surprised if male and female brains do in fact operate differently.

They have squidgy bits.

Men have more logical technical brains. Women are more social and emotional (for the most part).
