Waste is not discharged directly from aircraft toilet systems or holding tanks however the venting system may develop rhime which becomes heavy enough to break off. This artificial hailstone of sorts comes down with considerable force and can kill.

Fortunately, incidents like this are uncommon. 🙂

Cheers!

Is rhime some kind of euphamism for "shitty water"?😕 Airline jargon perhaps?

Rhime is actually a meterological term that refers to the freezing of atmospheric moisture on contact. Aircraft toilet systems have vents and frequently these effluent vapors will freeze into a form of rhime - ice. This ice can get heavy enough to break off or a bump can dislodge it. Once this happens it's a crap shoot. Ok pun not really intended. (Ok I'm bullshitting you - I really did intend to say it! 😛 )

Cheers!

Funny.. I was JUST reading about riming in my ecology textbook. It was talking about how ice crystals falling through cloud droplets gathers them and scavenges nutrients from the air.
